A Stolen Ford Explorer Runs the Kensington, Clips a Cruiser, and Scatters Its Occupants on Foot Near Grider

Early this morning a stolen Explorer led Buffalo police on a chase up the East Side and onto Route 33 that ended with the car abandoned near Grider Street, a police cruiser struck, two people in custody and one still at large.

Just before 2:50 AM this morning, Buffalo officers were calling out a fleeing vehicle street by street across the East Side — northbound on Fox from Broadway, then Sycamore, then onto the Kensington Expressway. Dispatch confirmed what the chasing units suspected: “this is the Ford Explorer still”, now eastbound on the 33 and passing Humboldt before getting off at Grider.

At about 2:53 AM the radio turned urgent, with one unit reporting that the Explorer had “just smoked a police car” and another telling the driver to “Stay up there, police car”. Within a minute a unit announced one person in custody; a follow-up reported that “two of them bailed” and had run off northbound on Grider.

By the time the dust settled around 3:52 AM, two suspects were in custody and one remained outstanding. A supervisor repeatedly pressed for the exact location of the struck cruiser and asked whether an officer needed an ambulance from the collision — the answer on the air was negative. The scanner traffic did not establish whether the last suspect was located before the thread closed.

A Man Turns Up Shot in the Leg on Main Street, With No One in the Area Having Heard a Shot

Overnight Buffalo officers found a man wounded near Main Street who could not say where it happened — a shooting that nobody nearby reported hearing, as a vehicle sped off from the scene.

At about 1:35 AM this morning, a Buffalo officer in the area of 1305 Main Street radioed that a man appeared to have been shot in the leg. Tellingly, the officer added that “No one's heard any shots fired in the area”, and AMR was notified as an Engine 21 EMS crew worked the patient.

The wounded man was uncertain where it had happened, telling officers he was “possibly shot in between Delaware and West”. Officers asked for any available cars to head over and check that stretch, while the broader traffic noted a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The scanner traffic did not establish a suspect or where the shooting took place before the thread closed.

A Child Hurt at an Ellicottville Restaurant Is Flown to ECMC by Mercy Flight After a Landing Zone Is Set at the Fire Hall

Yesterday evening a pediatric fall and throat injury on the patio of Balloons in Ellicottville escalated to a Mercy Flight medevac, with crews standing up a landing zone at the village fire department.

Yesterday at about 5:16 PM, Cattaraugus County fire dispatch sent an ALS response to 20 Monroe Street in Ellicottville, the Balloons restaurant, for a pediatric patient who had fallen on the outside patio and struck the head, with difficulty breathing. Early reports carried conflicting ages before the response built up quickly.

Within about fifteen minutes the call was described as pediatric trauma with airway compromise, and Mercy Flight was activated with a landing zone set up at the Ellicottville fire department. By 5:56 PM, crews reported the patient conscious and alert with a throat injury and difficulty swallowing but stable vitals, and Mercy Flight 5 was en route to ECMC. The scanner traffic did not establish the child's condition on arrival.

Two Autistic Sisters, 5 and 6, Reported Missing From an East Side Address in Back-to-Back Calls

Yesterday evening Buffalo police worked a frantic report from an Edison Avenue address — a missing 6-year-old autistic girl, then minutes later a second call for her 5-year-old autistic sister — before a child was spotted back on scene.

Yesterday at about 6:46 PM, a Buffalo dispatcher put out a missing-person call for a child under 12 at 316 Edison, relaying that a female caller reported “a missing autistic 6 year old female”, that the caller was intoxicated, and that she was calling with no other information.

Moments later the picture grew: dispatch said officers were now also getting a call from a man that he was missing a five-year-old autistic daughter who had run away, with an unknown time frame and no clothing description. Both children were described as Black females.

Shortly after, around 6:49 PM, a unit on scene reported “Looks like the child's here”. The scanner traffic did not resolve the status of both children before the thread closed, but a child was accounted for on scene.

Two Amherst Juveniles Go Missing, and Their Mother Points Police Toward a LaSalle Avenue Address in Buffalo

Late last night Amherst police asked Buffalo officers to check a LaSalle Avenue address for two juveniles missing from their town, after their mother said she believed they were there.

Last night around 10:42 PM, a Buffalo dispatcher relayed that Amherst PD was asking officers to check 550 LaSalle for two juveniles missing from their town. The mother, dispatch said, thought the pair might be at the address with two people named on the air — one identified as Richard Rhodes and the other, after a correction, as Jaleelah Smith.

The request rode in among a busy stretch of East Side traffic that same evening. The scanner traffic did not establish whether the juveniles were found at the LaSalle address before the thread closed.

A Teen in a Blacked-Out White SUV, Possibly Tied to a Buffalo Armed Robbery, Slips a Cheektowaga Chase Down the Side Streets

Early this morning Cheektowaga officers tracked a white SUV flagged as a possible match to a Buffalo armed robbery through the side streets around Lahar and Union, declining to pursue before losing it near Union Road.

At about 3:36 AM this morning, a Cheektowaga dispatcher sent cars to the area of 161 Lahar for a teenager seen on a resident's camera about ten minutes earlier with a white SUV. For officer safety, dispatch noted that “Buffalo had an armed robbery with a white SUV earlier tonight” and that it might be the same car.

Officers described the subject as an unknown-race teenager in white pants and a grey hoodie. One unit soon reported eyes on a white SUV “flying down the side streets here”, noting it had blacked out its lights and was heading back up Lahar toward Union. A following officer stressed on the air that he was “not pursuing, I'm just going to follow it as close as I can to make sure they don't crash”.

The SUV turned northbound onto Union, and officers lost sight of it there. The scanner traffic did not establish whether the vehicle or driver was located before the thread closed.

Editor’s Note

A violent overnight across Buffalo's East Side gave this window its hard edges: two separate vehicle pursuits, a man shot in the leg on Main Street with no one hearing the shots, and two unrelated missing-juvenile cases that pulled officers from address to address after midnight. Earlier in the evening the Southern Tier briefly held the region's attention when a pediatric trauma at an Ellicottville restaurant escalated to a Mercy Flight medevac to ECMC. Around those bursts, the wires ran their usual quiet grind — a long parade of falls, chest pains, difficulty-breathing runs and fire alarms spread across the suburbs and the outer counties.
