A Pastor Flags Down Amherst Officers Over an Armed Man Who'd Threatened to Kill Police

A U.S. Carbine .30 caliber came up over the air as officers sorted out a subject with a criminal-contempt warning and social-media threats against law enforcement.

Yesterday at about 5:11 PM, an Amherst officer reported being “flagged down by a pastor” near Koenig Road and Niagara Falls Boulevard, interrupting a radio exchange that had already turned to a weapon — a “U.S. Carbine .30 cal” relayed moments earlier over the air.

As officers worked the call, dispatch and units traded identifying information on a male subject and flagged a serious caution: he was wanted “for criminal contempt”, and there was a warning on file that “he has made statements on social media about killing law”. A supervisor directed another unit to head that way, and the response ran on for roughly twenty minutes as officers moved to contain the area.

A Found Autistic 4-Year-Old Sends Cheektowaga Officers Walking Yard to Yard Hunting His Family

With the boy unable to tell them where he lived, officers worked old calls, old faces and a tip about a family before the mystery resolved safely.

Late yesterday evening, around 11:00 PM, Cheektowaga officers found themselves with a problem in reverse: a child, not a parent. An officer reported that “the young boy here appears autistic, he's having a hard time communicating”, a black male about four years old with longer dreadlock-style hair, first seen on the west side of Lom walking southbound near Straley.

Unable to get a name, officers fanned out through the Harlem-Walden district, splitting streets and walking yards to look for “any sort of children's toys in the front yard or back yard”. They traded institutional memory on the air — an officer recalled a black male autistic child who had wandered off a year or two earlier from over on Olcott, and another remembered dealing with a boy named Messiah from a family with several young children, pointing toward 120 Leonard Post.

A check of 120 Leonard Post came back negative, but the search ultimately ended with the boy accounted for — one of two overnight missing-child scares across the region that both closed safely.

A few minutes later the complainant returned to the house at 219 Patton; she had not had eyes on the teen recently and was simply looking for him as officers continued working the surrounding streets.

Editor’s Note

A long, mostly ordinary overnight across Western New York filled the wires with the usual churn — falls, chest pains, lift assists and alarm checks from Buffalo to the outer tier, with Buffalo Fire alone carrying well over a hundred runs. What stood apart were the scares that put people on foot: an Amherst pastor flagging down officers over an armed man who had threatened police, an armed woman flashing a gun on her hip in Clarence, and two separate missing-child searches — a four-year-old in Cheektowaga and a nonverbal teen in Amherst — that both ended safely. Threaded through the night was a recurring two-wheeled theme, from swarms of fifty-plus dirt bikes and ATVs down Buffalo's Niagara Street to a dirt-bike crash that sent a rider to the helipad with a collapsed lung, while Southtowns and Chautauqua-Cattaraugus crews worked fires and medical calls straight through to dawn.
