A Stabbing on West Chippewa Pulls Buffalo Officers Into a Frantic Sidewalk Scramble, With a Call for a Tourniquet and an ADI Step-Up

Officers converged on a bar at 56 West Chippewa last night as one victim bled on the sidewalk; crews called for tourniquets and more help as the thread stretched across the hour.

Yesterday at about 8:01 PM, Buffalo police were pushed to 56 West Chippewa for a stabbing, with dispatch asking a car to “get the 56 West Chippewa for a stabbing” and reports of a man down on the sidewalk. According to the radio traffic, a suspect was described as a man in a white top, no shirt or green shorts, and officers were told to call it in and watch the scene as multiple Bravo units — 412, 414, 424 and others — self-dispatched toward Chippewa.

The scene turned urgent on the air within minutes. One officer called out “if anybody's got a tourniquet, can you bring it over here”, another reported working to control bleeding, and a unit asked to be thrown on the stabbing with an “ADI step-up” as the response scaled up. The traffic indicated more than one victim and a prolonged, multi-unit presence; washdown requests for blood on the Chippewa sidewalk continued past 9:00 PM. The scanner did not broadcast the victims' conditions or any arrest before the thread moved on.

A Gunshot Victim Is Driven Straight to the ECMC Emergency Entrance, Shot Once in the Chest

A vehicle pulled up in front of the ER early this morning with a man shot in the chest; a sector car was asked to ride up as officers hunted for the shooting scene.

Early this morning at about 12:15 AM, Erie County Medical Center came up on the radio to report “we just had a drive-up shooting, we had the vehicle in front of the ER”, with the vehicle sitting in front of the emergency entrance. Dispatch relayed the drive-up shooting and the gunshot-wound victim as officers scrambled to figure out where the shooting had actually happened.

Moments later, a unit near Wadsworth and Fox reported hearing “possibly a few gunshots” west of their location a few minutes earlier, and dispatch asked whether any available car could take a ride up to ECMC to work the gunshot-wound victim. The traffic placed the man in Trauma Room 1, shot once in the chest. The scanner did not broadcast his condition or an arrest before officers turned to tracking a separate vehicle on the license-plate reader.

A Vehicle Fire on Route 78 Turns Into an Extrication, With Mercy Flight Guided to a Cornfield Landing Zone

Wyoming County crews worked to free an occupant on Route 78 near Twin Prescott last night as a fire commander talked a helicopter down beside the wreck.

Yesterday at about 9:49 PM, Wyoming County fire dispatch toned out a “possible vehicle on fire, 1826 Route 78, Twin Prescott” at 1826 Route 78, Twin Prescott. The call quickly escalated beyond a car fire: by around 10:07 PM a crew reported “working on extrication now”, and air support was requested as medics and additional companies converged on the scene.

A commander on the ground then talked a Mercy Flight helicopter in, warning the pilot of cornfields fifty yards to the north and a hundred yards to either side, storage buildings nearby, and directing the aircraft to land directly in front of his truck, just east of the wreck. He offered to kill his lights on final approach so the crew would not be blinded. The scanner did not broadcast the patient's condition before the thread closed.

RESOLVED

A Dive Team and Technical Rescue Scale a Cliff at Ottaway Park to Reach Two Boaters Pinned Against a Rock Wall

A boat with two occupants wound up jammed against the cliff below Westfield's Ottaway Park last night; deputies launched a dive boat and called tech rescue before both were brought ashore.

Yesterday at about 6:08 PM, Chautauqua County sheriff's dispatch began working a report of a “boat in distress taking on water” that had pinged just off Ottaway Park in Westfield. A deputy grabbed the dive boat and headed to the water as Westfield cars went down to the park to look for a vessel taking on water, and the dive team was dispatched.

By about 6:21 PM, units reported the boat located and “pinned up against the wall, the cliff” below the park — one, possibly two people aboard. A deputy asked for technical rescue, warning crews they would have to scale a cliff to reach the occupants. Within minutes, a unit reported both occupants were out of the water and onshore, and dispatch turned to arranging access through the park gate for the vessel recovery. The scanner reported no injuries before the thread closed.

Two Dirt-Bike Riders Pull a Gun on a Woman Near Fillmore, Sending Buffalo's Air Unit Overhead Before the Bike Breaks Down

Officers were waved down late last night for a pair on a single dirt bike who flashed a handgun; cars were told not to pursue, Air One joined the search, and the bike malfunctioned.

Yesterday at about 10:17 PM, a Buffalo officer reported being “waved down” on Fillmore for two males on a single dirt bike, both in gray hoodies, who “pulled a gun out on this female”. The riders took off southbound, and dispatch tracked the bike through the East Side — Academy toward Walden — as officers called out directions.

A supervisor directed that no car pursue the dirt bike, citing officer safety, and Air One went up to work the area from above. Within minutes the chase resolved on its own: an officer reported one in custody at Sumner Place, and when a car asked whether it was related to the dirt bike, dispatch answered simply that “the dirt bike malfunctioned”. The scanner did not broadcast charges before the thread closed.

A steady roll of companies followed over the next several minutes — Springville units, Martin's Corners, Morton's Corners and others — all directed to switch to the F2 fireground frequency on arrival. The scanner did not broadcast an injury or the extent of the fire before dispatch pivoted to a separate noxious-odor call on Main Street in North Collins.

Amherst · Kings Road · Missing Student Found

RESOLVED

An Autistic 11-Year-Old Bolts From His Middle School and Is Found Safe Hours Later at Main and Eggert

Amherst officers fanned out along Kings Road yesterday afternoon after a non-verbal boy named Ezra ran out the front door; he turned up near a Main Street pharmacy awaiting his father.

Yesterday at about 3:13 PM, Amherst police began an endangered-youth search after an officer reported that “an autistic student ran out the front door” and went westbound on Kings. Dispatch put out a description for the boy — named Ezra, autistic and non-verbal, in a black hoodie with a black-and-white backpack, about 5 feet 4 and 120 pounds — and noted he lived over on Allenhurst and might be heading that way, but “he most certainly cannot walk home alone”.

Multiple cars worked the Kings Road and Allenhurst area as the school texted updates and a photo. The search resolved safely: by about 3:28 PM the boy was located near Main and Eggert, by a pharmacy, and officers waited with him for his father to arrive for pickup. No injuries were reported.

Officers called out the chase's path street by street — north on Delavan, south on Suffolk from Proctor, then east on Delavan again — while asking repeatedly whether the department's Air One helicopter was still aloft; the answer came back that it was not.

Editor’s Note

A violent, fast-moving overnight on the wires overshadowed a steady suburban grind: a double stabbing-and-shooting erupted outside a West Chippewa bar, drawing a sustained multi-unit Buffalo response with calls for tourniquets on the sidewalk, and a few hours later a gunshot victim was driven straight to the ECMC emergency entrance, shot once in the chest. Out in Wyoming County, a Route 78 vehicle fire turned into an extrication with Mercy Flight called for a cornfield landing zone, while a Chautauqua County dive and tech-rescue team scaled a cliff at Westfield's Ottaway Park to reach two boaters pinned against a rock wall. Beneath the headlines ran the region's usual undercurrent — elderly falls, difficulty-breathing runs, alarm activations and small-town oddities from Grand Island to Olean. No threads from yesterday's prior edition required updating.
