Amherst PD searched for a green Jeep Wrangler that struck a parked car and fled — traffic described it heading eastbound on West Klein toward Hopkins, with a later update calling it a darker-colored Wrangler with damage on the driver's side. At 11:06 PM Buffalo Fire Dispatch sent a level-3 response for “report of a auto on fire on the expressway on the Route 33 westbound at Humboldt, person possibly inside” on the Route 33 westbound at Humboldt, going for Engine 21, Engine 33, Ladder 6, Rescue 1 and command. A passing motorist had reported the vehicle burning with someone possibly trapped.
Crews found a jeep fully involved in the westbound lane, just before the Humboldt Parkway overpass, with fire that “looks like it jumped over from Humboldt to the 33”. By 11:14 PM command reported the vehicle was an auto fire, unoccupied — the feared occupant did not materialize.
