Stolen Truck Rolls at Bailey and Eggert With People Pinned Inside; Extrication Required, Pulses Faint

At 11:52 PM Amherst Fire Dispatch put out an MVA at Bailey Avenue and Eggert Road — two vehicles, one rolled onto its side, one pinned against a pole — and started an extrication.

Amherst PD was there almost immediately. The first arriving officer reported “I have a pulse from what I can feel and is unresponsive”, then, feeling for a second occupant in the vehicle on its side, that they felt a pulse. Fire was rolling in as they spoke.

Minutes later PD came back with the wrinkle: “The city of Tonawanda — that vehicle was just stolen out of their town”. Radios crackled with a stream of “thanks for watching” Whisper hallucinations while the second-arriving officer worked victims. By 11:59 PM dispatchers were being told two of the pinned males were conscious and talking, with a third confirmed breathing. Eggert Road closed for hours; PD ultimately cleared the accident around 5:51 AM and reopened the road.

Bicyclist Hit in Front of the Main Street Eye Doctor; Green Jeep Leaves the Scene

Amherst PD was pulled to 5500 Main Street in the center of Williamsville at 3:16 PM to meet a complainant standing in a group of teenagers outside the optometrist there.

Dispatch: “…a male that was riding his bike, stopped and hit them, and then left in a green Jeep… white male, balding with a beard, wearing a high-visibility green construction shirt”. Cars checked northbound to Maple and southbound to Kenmore and found nothing showing.

Amherst · Maple Road

Elderly Man Down, Bleeding, on Maple Road in Front of the Solar Salons

At 3:14 PM Amherst Fire Dispatch pushed an EMS run to Maple Road in front of the solar salons between Palmdale Drive and Transit Road — an elderly male had fallen in the street and was bleeding from a head injury.

Newstead · Akron Village

Predawn Seizure Call at 95 Main in Akron Village Downgraded from Full to Cold Response

At 4:47 AM Amherst Fire Dispatch initially put Akron EMS in as a full response to 95 Main Street at Clinton and Church for a 60-year-old male who possibly had a seizure and wasn’t looking for evaluation. Twenty seconds later dispatch corrected downward to a cold response — an infrequent, welcome direction for that hour.

FRS 15 · Lockport

A Retired Water-Treatment Operator Waxes Philosophical on Repeaters, Walkie-Talkies, and the Vanished Craft of the CB Call Sign

For the better part of an hour on FRS 15, an amateur-radio hobbyist — sign-off WSKQ976 — held court from a hilltop in Lockport on the mysteries of repeater topography, the pleasures of a 725-watt pair at 141.3 PL, and how his 37 years as a water-treatment plant operator gave him the discipline he now channels into radio.

The unbroken monologue included the confession “I don’t even dare think about counting up how many HTs I have” and the world-weary observation “This is back when you needed a call sign for CB”. He also announced his hope of doing more GMRS with the group and thanked “Katie” before signing off monitoring.

Amherst · Whisper hallucination

Amherst Fire Signs Off With a YouTube Outro, Then Wishes Us a Nice Day Three Times in a Row

Between 3:20 PM and 3:21 PM the Whisper transcription of dead-air on the Amherst Fire Dispatch trunk produced one of its more heartfelt hallucinations: “Thank you for watching this video. I hope you enjoyed it. Have a nice day. Have a nice day. Have a nice day.”, followed by three consecutive “Have a nice day.” Earlier in the shift, at 3:09 PM, Amherst PD had helpfully reminded listeners to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more videos like this. The scanner does not, of course, have a YouTube channel.

BNIA · Delta Ramp

“Olean on the Ground”: BNIA Delta Ramp Confirms Regional Arrival in Two Words

At 3:39 PM the Delta ramp channel dispensed with all fuss and simply announced “Olean on the ground”. That is a full sentence for the ramp — a completed flight, a plane on stand, and back to whatever is next.

ITOA · Cab dispatch

Cab Dispatcher Delivers Life-Story Epitaph Between Fares

At 5:37 PM the ITOA 463.95 taxi channel produced, without preamble or context, this arc-of-a-life summary: “He was in the hospital, in ICU, then he was in a regular hospital, then he was in a nursing facility, and then he died”. On the same channel two hours earlier a driver noted that yesterday’s fare had gone to a skilled nursing facility because he was having green bowel movements. Slow day on the meters.

Buffalo · East Side

Shots Fired Outside a 329 Austin Street Apartment; Callers Report Many Shots From Inside

At 8:41 PM BPD B-D dispatched available Delta cars to 329 Austin Street for shots fired. Follow-up in the next two minutes had callers hearing many shots from inside a first-floor apartment; a witness was reported staying in one of the houses on Austin around 320 or West. No firm suspect description came across the trunk on the initial arc.

Commercial Fire Alarm at the Elmwood AutoZone Wakes Buffalo Fire Just After Sunrise

Buffalo Fire pushed 136 to a preliminary signal for an activated commercial fire alarm at 2001 Elmwood, between Hertel and Hinman, at the Auto Zone, at 6:24 AM — the first alarm-panel call of the morning shift.

Buffalo · Abbott corridor

“Loud Bang and a Flash in the Park” Draws Buffalo Fire to the Discovery School

A Still Alarm ran at 1:37 AM on the report of “a loud bang and a flash in the park” near The Discovery School at 9-11 Abbott, with dispatchers routing companies through what sounded like a possible fireworks or transformer arc; no expansion followed on this frequency and the call closed quickly.

West Seneca · Clinton

Third-Party Overdose Call at 4663 Clinton — Unresponsive, Agonal Breathing

At 8:32 PM West Seneca Fire Dispatch pushed Union crews to 4663 Clinton for an unresponsive party, third-party call, suspected overdose. By 8:37 PM dispatchers had the update from scene: “Patient’s unresponsive, agonal breathing”, with AMR 264 medic level en route.

Editor’s Note

A slow-then-loud Wednesday-into-Thursday window: the Amherst-Clarence trunk stayed quiet through most of the afternoon and evening, then a late-night rollover crash at Bailey and Eggert flipped a stolen vehicle onto its side with people pinned and unresponsive inside, and dragged Amherst Fire and PD through midnight. Buffalo carried the darker stuff: shots fired outside a 329 Austin Street apartment around 20:41 and an overdose call across the line at 4663 Clinton in West Seneca a few minutes earlier. Village-adjacent action was mercifully small — a bicyclist hit by a green Jeep in front of the 5500 Main Street eye doctor at 15:16, an elderly man down bleeding on Maple Road near the solar salons at 15:14. And on FRS 15, a retired water-treatment operator held court for the better part of an hour on repeaters, walkie-talkies, and the vanishing craft of the CB call sign. Weather stays kind: high 80, mostly sunny, then a warming stretch through Friday.
